Competitive Adsorption of Drugs from a Multi-Component Mixture on Sugarcane Bagasse

This work examines the adsorption in single- and multi-solute experiments of antibiotic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, i.e., ciprofloxacin (CPX), sulfamethoxazole (SMX), ibuprofen (IBU), diclofenac (DCF), onto sugarcane bagasse. The maximum experimental capacities single components CPX, DCF, IBU, SMX, were 0.98, 0.77, 0.61, 0.51 mg/g, respectively, with decreases between 5 28% mixtures, assuming competitive adsorption. data a drug fitted pseudo-second-order model, while isotherms fit Freundlich model. presence CPX did not interfere other solutes. SMX was lower competitors than solution. binary systems adequately Sheindorf–Rebhun–Sheintuch results showed that competition process depends on each adsorbate bagasse can adsorb drugs multi-component systems.
